Home and Family

Home and Family

As of 2009, some 5,000 lone soldiers serve in the IDF.
A lone soldier is a soldier who is not supported by a family, financially/physically and emotionally. This applies to a soldier who mobilizes or a soldier who is notably cut off from his family over a long period of time.
The Home and Family Project was developed in close cooperation with the IDF, the Givati Brigade and other professional agencies.
The purpose of this project is to provide a home and a supporting family for lone soldiers throughout their entire military service.

An Apartment that is Home

Beit Kobi's 3 residential units accommodate 3 lone soldiers each. These soldiers enjoy living in a private residential unit. Each soldier is adopted by volunteers who are trained by the organization to be his supportive family. The maintenance for the residential units is taken care of by the organization.

In order to provide the participating families with tools, Beit Kobi developed unique training workshops which are attended by all the volunteer families at Beit Kobi. The standards and workshop structure were developed by Beit Kobi professionals, among them social workers, educators, and more.

Target Population
Lone combat soldiers from the Givati Brigade

Supporting families

Objectives
Beit Kobi and its volunteers are seeking to provide the lone soldier with a warm family nest during the military service while offering accommodation solutions and response to the soldier's various needs.
To become a national example in assisting and caring for Lone Soldiers.

Our Success
The success of the organization’s project for training supporting families is expressed by the will of the participating families to continue volunteering for the project. There are supporting families who have been active in the Home and Family Project for 5 straight years.

In addition, a professional set iof feedbacks evalutes the degree of satisfaction of soldiers and  the supportive families.

Our success is also measured by the lone soldier’s feelings (from a lone soldier in the Home and Family Project):
“The big change began after I got to Beit Kobi. I received an apartment and a supporting family. I found a home and family in the warmest possible manner.’
